9) https://burpkayak.forumotion.co.uk/t27-sri-lanka-flights
One of the most important things with booking flights is knowing if they take kayaks.
When you look for a flight and get a price, can you have a nosey at the baggage policy and excess baggage costs of the airline too?
If they don't say anything immediately about sports luggage, send them an email.
Airlines which fly to Sri Lanka (some of them)
Soudi Arabian Airlines
Oman Air
Jet Airways
(seemingly more expensive - though that may just be the one search:)
Aeroflot
FinnairChina Eastern
Gulf Air
From here http://www.cheapticket.co.uk/SearchResult.aspx
So if you fancy dong a bit of flight research, can you look at the Sports Luggage allowence for these companies.

Re: To-Do-List
Seeing as everyone seems to be finishing exams and projects and things me and Dave thought we'd write up a least of things we can think of that need doing over the next few weeks. Don't think it really matters what your job role was but if we all muck in and do what we can. If you post up when you've done or started something or clearly start a new post if necessary. Here goes:
Insurance
Plan coaching sessions - We will need 2/3 days material so should be as planned as possible. Dave is waiting to hear back about group size, ability etc.
Write blogs on anything you've done recently (I need to do mine, I'll try ang get it up asap)
Organise meet up paddle so that we've paddled together before the trip. Also for studying maps and planning coaching sessions
Organise meet up and getting to the airport on the 2nd (Someone look into cost of leaving 2cars at the airport)
Create a spreadsheet? to list the kit we are planning to take and whos taking it to avoid excess kit and organisation on departure (Just a suggestion, maybe an easier way of doing it. Please say if you've got ideas)
Get in touch with a local newspaper/news program to get publicity when out there?
Rivers - Start studying maps, google maps and potentially the waterfalls database for possible rivers to paddle
Make a more detailed itinery with that info.
Any more grants?
Contact me re kit sponsorship if theres any other companies you would like to appeal to
Check your passport will be in date!
Anything else you can think of and don't have time to do post up

I reckon between us we should take 2 filter Milbank bags. Someone should put in the order. I have one.
We also need to get in touch with Playak regarding our blog.
I have an Iodine bottle (a little one). We should definitely get another one. Mine has a useful 'dripper' so you can count the number of drops.

This thread is pretty extensive but may not include all we need.
Will help you with the Excel spreadsheet anyway.

Tom & Will:
Just put a post on the River List thread - think it will be worthloong at.
Have the maps arrived yet??
http://www.waterfalls.lk/

http://www.lanka.com/sri-lanka/waterfalls-of-sri-lanka-88.html
http://www.lanka.com/sri-lanka/horton-plains-sri-lanka-127.html
Apparently Horton Plains may be worth spending a bit of time at.

Re: To-Do-List
HEy guys
Hope you got the spreadsheet. Can you guys fill it in and send it back to me, including any other suggestions. Just a quick confirmation...we don't need a visa right?
Also, what insurance are you guys going to go for?

Re: To-Do-List
Hey guys, just making sure everyone is on top of this?
Sean has the equipment list sent out. Hope everyone has filled it in so he can start working out who needs to bring what.
Nick, you managed to find an Iodine Drip? And Niamh I think is still after a Millbank bag. Mine is only small so we could really do with a bigger one.
I'm still working on these Russians! Can't get a contact anywhere!
Nick - did you say you have an SLR? And you're taking it, right? Would be awesome because for 6 people 2 SLRs is ideal.
If you do, get a spare battery too. Not necessarily the same make as your camera, but amazon should sort you out. Dave

Re: To-Do-List
Regarding water purification:
Thinking of going for a SteriPEN which uses UV and is battery powered, do people think Iodine drops would be better?
Yes T do have an SLR, don't have another battery but will order one

Re: To-Do-List
I've always used Iodine which has worked well - it's cheap.
Would be interesting to use a UV pen thing (they're not too heavy, are they?)
Niamhs just told me she's got Iodine, so we'll have 2 bottles (incase 1 gets lost/broken).
Can keep one bottle in the 1st aid kit, have one handy for purification, and if you get a pen then have that for purification too?
Also about cameras, have a fiddle and make sure you can set the photo's to taking in RAW mode - this is what is required for Kayak Session articles.

Re: To-Do-List
Millbank bag ordered.
Must have been the last in tock in the country!
Unless we wanted one from 1944 from Ebay...
Don't need to read but just for interest:
http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/content.php?r=115-The-Science-of-Water
If we're in a very polluted place we should probably boil as well as iodine
