Sorry Nick, cant post on your posts! The Berghaus thing looks good. Well done. Havent looked much into sponsorship as we probably need a destination first! But thought I'd give you something to keep an eye out for. All though I'm no longer a wonderful uni go-er, I am aware that there is probably a travel/adventure/personal development grant or award such as the edith benton travel scholarship with Leeds Geography school. It would obviously be personal sponsorship to help you out. Its definitely keen but if you are on the lookout and know the deadline sooner, the better!

Hope these all made sense tonight. Too tired to proof read!

Lots of potential grants here

Such as:
http://www.kelloggs.co.uk/company/corporateresponsibility/activelivingfund/caniapply.aspx
http://www.sportengland.org/funding/lottery_awards_search.aspx
http://www.sportengland.org/funding/community_investment_fund.aspx
http://www.bucs.org.uk/homepage.asp
Not really sure BUCS will be able to help us, but you never know.
Maybe get in touch with people who support BUCS
[At the bottom of the BUCS webbage. ie, Right to Play, Kukri]

Has anyone got any links with PGL?

May have missed the deadline with this one.

Alot of these are only given if they help the 'wider community'.
Bullshit on these forms is not soooo hard to do.
Basically say, increased tourism to the counttry.
We'll repotrt back to the UK through website and presentations & inspire people to go kayaking.
Give examples of how we've done this before (/make them up - Tom, did you do any presentations from Vietnam? What's that? Yes? And they were very inspirational wern't they.
Also say although Sri Lanka will have some hard white water we are expecting (from gradientsof rivers we have looked at etc) to find lots of grade 3/4.
This will be a good destination for people wanting to explore and push thier boating further. etc yada.

Also,
Lyon Equipment
Yound Exploreres Trust.
Rotary Clubs and Round tables from respective areas

Also do a grants search for your local area.
A couple of friends have had funding from a Doncaster based memorial fund before - you might get lucky.

Another one for 'Social Entrepreneurs'
We can be that. Pitch it more as us helping people abroad through various mechanisms (increase tourism, health and safety to local raft guiides, taking head guide with us on rivers, ropework coaching etc), Helping people abroad, then coming back and reporting on it, pitch to their level to inspiring young people that things like this are accessible.

USING THE PROPOSAL:
A few things:
Nick - we've linked the website in this proposal. It needs to be updated and looking relatively complete before potential sponsors find it.

If you're writing to companies/funds, attach the document, but also put the main details in the email.
ie, Background, Aim (& Lasting Legacy if the email isn't looking too long), and importantly Media/Publicity section.

With the 'Media/Publicity' section, instead of it saying,
"You will have a logo on our website" etc, try and personalise it.
ie, 'Zet Kayaks' will have... / The 'I'll Throw Money at Young Kayakers Fund' will have...
(there are loads of them)

Also fore editing:
Depending on the fund applying for, edit the Ages and University and Course. This isn't BUKE, so course definitely isn't required on the document.
If you are applying for say, Rotary Foundation / Round Table or Young Explorers type funds, they will appreciate that we are young and at university.
If you are applying for bigger companies / the Sri Lankan Tourist Office etc, you don't need to include University and especially not course. It may seem like an amature bodge job of an expedition. ....*ahem!*

There is also a section in 'Logistics' where it says "We will buy xxx 1:10000 maps". Change this to 10 to correlate with the budget we have set for maps.

http://www.berghaus.com/en/adventure-challenge/entries/add
It says enteries every month. But it also says enteries by 30th Jan.
I assume they get them all in at the start of the year?
But!...I've got 500 words to say about this*
Please tell us more about your proposed Adventure Challenge. Please read our guidelines before completing (max 500 words):
Can anyone do a quick 500 words on this:
Please tell us why you want to take the Berghaus Adventure Challenge (max 500 words):
For the sake of 500 words its worth a pop??

*“It is warm and has year round rivers to paddle. Most rivers have easy access and many areas still need to be explored. There's internationally known surf and the food is great.” Andy Sommer
Sri Lankan beaches are a well known destination for surfers and surf kayakers, but despite the countries white water potential there have only been a handful of previous expeditions. This is largely due to a civil war until which ended in 2009, but Sri Lanka is now stable and ready for exploration.
We aim to explore the rivers of southern and central Sri Lanka’s mountain ranges, paddling some known sections and finding first descents. We will also help to boost awareness of Sri Lanka as a tourist and particularly a kayaking destination by publicising our trip and leaving river guides for future kayakers via our website. We will also spend some time teaching safety techniques to local raft guides and kayakers to leave a sustainable legacy boosting local skills and tourism.
Along with exploring and kayaking, our trip will also aim to leave a lasting legacy in Sri Lanka which will benefit the local people.
We have enlisted the help of a rafting company based in Sri Lanka, Borderlands. We are using their vehicles to travel and explore Sri Lanka and we will take a member of their staff along with us as an interpreter and take him with us on some of the rivers to provide coaching on general river safety and more specific techniques such as leading and rescue skills. These are skills which he will be able to pass on within borderlands and other rafting companies in Sri Lanka. We will also spend some time at Borderlands in Colombo providing advanced rope work and safety lessons to local raft guides and kayakers. When we leave Sri Lanka we hope to leave much of our equipment to the local paddling community.
Full travel around the north of Sri Lanka has only been possible since the 26 year long Civil war between the Sri Lankan military and the Tamil Tigers (LTTE) ended in 2009. We will report back to Wade of Borderlands rafting company any suitable rivers we find during our exploration of the northern end of the central mountain ranges. This will be in the hope that they may be used for rafting in the future, and boosting tourism in an area where there is currently little.
Upon returning to England we will put together some footage and photos taken in Sri Lanka and present our trip at various paddling and outdoors events. We will also write river guides for all the rivers kayaked on this trip and publish them on our website for future trips to use. This should increase the popularity of Sri Lanka as a kayaking destination.

Nick & Will, this one is for you. Age 21 and under.
It does say thats the 2010 award, but it may be worth phoning them and finding out if a similar thing is happening in 2011.

We have missed the deasline with the Yound Explorers Trust.
Also missed the deadline with the Gor-Tex Awards.
I've almost sent an application to Lyon Equipment.

Keep searching!

It will be worth someone getting in touch with these people I reckon?
We're not the most remote, but it would be extra publicity?
If you're going to do it, stick a reply on here so I know if someone is on the job.
Cheers!
