Georgia as a back up? Empty Georgia as a back up?

From Niamh:
Georgia however is an incredible country to kayak in. Logistics are very easy with the help of Misha and there is still a lot to explore. Misha said borders between countries are difficult but he could get us through to Armenia but probably not to Azerbaijan by road. He will be very helpful and know a lot of info and contacts if we want to look more into this area. I would probably prefer to go somewhere new but if we're struggling for a sensible destination then maybe have a think about the Caucasus.

It would be nice for Niamh to go somewhere new, and less explored.
But what do people think about Georgia? Fairly cheap and established.
Not so much scope for magazine articles etc.
Maybe consider this.

Niamh - any idea if there is more potential in any other areas of the Caucasus to where you were? (or were you all over?)
What about nearer the boarder with Turkey?

(It might shit on Chris Es plans, but as a '3rd dimension' it we could set up a kayak school??)

If there is some stuff to explore thats cool with me
This leaves us with Madagascar and sri lanka with georgia as a back up- we have the info on madagascar, can we make a decision- possible or too expensive/not quite right season?

Will - this is stuff i've just guessed at. Niamh will be able to edit.

Flights, £450
Cost of living, use many home stays so cheap.
Transport and hire of translator - ~£10/day
No major problems.
Stay away from Chechnia (sp?)
Everywhere else seems stable.
Check FCO and news regularly before hand to make sure there is no political unrest (unlikely).
